Raised in the San Francisco bay area, Tyler received an English degree from the University of Michigan before returning home to follow his dream of writing and recording music. After producing his first alternative rock album and touring for several years, Tyler formed a graphic design studio and also worked as a fashion and editorial photographer before attending film school, earning an MFA from the USC School of Cinema-Television in 1999.
Tyler broke into the industry as a Director of Photography on documentaries, television, commercials, and short films, for clients such as Fox Television, Paramount, Universal Records, RCA Records, and the United Nations. He won an outstanding cinematography award from the CineVegas film festival, and American Cinematographer magazine featured him for his work on Formosa, an independent feature that won numerous awards on the festival circuit.
Tyler then became Creative Director at LA-based agency Angelsmith, where he began helming spots and music videos. Tyler’s commercial directing work has been showcased in Boards magazine, and he won a Fuse Network award for his music video featuring The Bravery (Island/Def Jam). In addition, he continues to work as a music producer and recording artist, and his songs have been featured in several films and television series, including the recent comedy Meet Bill starring Aaron Eckhart and Jessica Alba.
Following his life-long passion for photography, Tyler continues to shoot both commercial assignments and personal fine art projects. An upcoming gallery opening will showcase his latest personal project Los Angeles Wide, with a limited edition book to follow.
Tyler recently directed his debut feature film, Forget Me Not, a supernatural thriller starring Carly Schroeder, Cody Linley, Jillian Murray, and Micah Alberti.
